20.5 million Americans plan to bet on World Cup
Over 20 million American adults (8%) are expected to wager a total of $1.8 billion on the ongoing football tournament, according to the American Gaming Association’s survey.
The situation of the sports betting industry has certainly improved enormously since the 2018 World Cup. Four years ago, only three U.S. states (Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware) had legal wagering markets.

Chinese Formula 1 GP to be cancelled due to Covid policies
BBC Sport reports that China’s return to Formula 1 schedule will be cancelled in 2023 due to the country’s Covid policies.
The long-awaited comeback of Formula 1 racing to China is expected to be cancelled. The racing competition has not visited the country since 2019 but was due to return for the fourth race in 2023 on 16 April.
China’s zero-Covid policy has led F1 to conclude the race cannot go ahead. Read more
FIFA bans ‘OneLove’ armbands, Germany protests
FIFA has banned the pro-LGBTQ “OneLove” campaign and instead has promoted its own “No Discrimination” campaign, which features different armbands.
England, Wales, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands were set to take part in the “OneLove” campaign to promote inclusion. However, they decided to resign from wearing the armbands due to the danger of players being punished with yellow cards.
“FIFA has been very clear that it will impose sporting sanctions if our captains wear the armbands on the field of play,” the joint statement read. Read more
PSG weighs up Parc de Princes departure
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club’s president, has revealed that PSG is considering leaving the Parc des Princes.
Al-Khelaifi told Bloomberg that the club have made an offer to buy the stadium, but that the venue’s owner, the Paris City Council, is demanding too high a price.
“Paris deserves a better stadium. My first option is we don’t move. But the city of Paris is pushing us to move,” Al-Khelaifi told Bloomberg. Read more
