MLS enters TikTok deal despite US government’s potential ban
Under the new multi-year deal between the league and the social media platform, TikTok will bring “exclusive content, in-app programming and more to the app”.

This new partnership will connect the TikTok community to MLS through exclusive content, in-app programming, greater access to highlights, in-stadium activations, MLS’ biggest events and tournaments, and more – TikTok’s official statement reads. Meanwhile, the social media platform confirmed to CNN that federal officials are demanding the app’s Chinese owners sell their stake in the social media platform, or risk facing a US ban of the app.

Massachusetts online sports betting launched just ahead of March Madness
Sports fans across the state are able to wager through their smartphones after the authorities allowed online wagering just days ahead of the NCAA college basketball tournament.
Earlier this year in-person sports betting from three casinos in the state has been allowed. Now, sports fans can legally wager online.
According to CBS News, state lawmakers estimate sports betting could generate about $60 million in annual tax revenue and $70 million to $80 million in initial licensing fees, which must be renewed every five years. Read more
FIFA scraps Visit Saudi as Women’s World Cup sponsor
The football’s world governing body has backflipped on plans to partner with Saudi Arabia’s government tourism agency.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said after the FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda: “Of course there were discussions with Visit Saudi and so on. At the end, these discussions didn’t lead to a contract.” Read more
Barcelona charged with corruption over payments to former referees’ official
Spanish court will open an investigation into FC Barcelona’s alleged referee corruption case.
The club has been accuse of paying over €7.3m between 2001 and 2018 to companies owned by Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, an ex-vice-president of Spain’s referees’ committee.
Barca’s ex-presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, former club executives Oscar Grau and Alber Soler and former vice president of the refereeing committee, Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. are listed as defendants in the case. Learn more
Georgia, North Carolina, Vermont renew efforts to legalize betting
When House Bill 127 was approved by the Vermont House of Representatives’ Committee on Ways and MeansIt the state has moved closer than ever to legalizing sports betting.
The new law would allow six sports wagering apps to launch in Vermont.
