Europe’s top football teams reported to launch Super League
Premier League’s Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are involved in the project, as well as La Liga’s Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid, and Serie A’s AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.
The competition is planned to start in time for the 2023-24 season, with a $6 billion fund backing the project.
The creation of the new league has been criticised by UEFA:
“If this were to happen, we wish to reiterate that we – UEFA, the English FA, RFEF, FIGC, the Premier League, LaLiga, Lega Serie A, but also FIFA and all our member associations – will remain united in our efforts to stop this cynical project, a project that is founded on the self-interest of a few clubs at a time when society needs solidarity more than ever,” UEFA said in a statement.
British Prime Minister has also expressed his opposition to the project tweeting: Plans for a European Super League would be very damaging for football and we support football authorities in taking action. Read more
US politicians eager to open the door to online betting
New York became the 16th US state in three years to authorized mobile sports wagering.
Sports betting has been on the rise in the US, as pandemic-hit states are looking for new sources of tax revenue. This January Americans spent $4 billion on sports betting, according to the American Gaming Association. Read more
Tencent secures domestic media rights for Chinese Super League
Chinese internet technology giant Tencent has acquired domestic media rights for the Chinese Super League in a three-season deal.
Tencent will broadcast live games, as well as on-demand and short video coverage of CSL action.
The agreement is non-exclusive, and the league has also signed a live streaming rights deal with the digital platform Dongquidi. Read more
England and France priced as favourites to win EURO 2020
With less than two months remaining until the first whistle of the rescheduled UEFA Euro 2020 Championships, who are the bookies’ favorites?
England and France are seen as the most probable winners of the tournament, followed by Belgium.
The tournament will be held in 12 cities located in 12 UEFA countries from June 11 to July 11, 2021. It was originally scheduled to take place in 2020, but had to be postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe. Read more

Copa America to go ahead with or without fans, says Colombia’s sports minister
“The Copa America is still as it’s been planned from the beginning: Argentina and Colombia,” Ernesto Lucena, Colombia’s sports minister, told El Tiempo newspaper.
Earlier, Argentina president Alberto Fernandez was reported to have suggested that the pandemic cast doubt over the tournament.
The 2021 Copa América, which will be the 47th edition of the competition, will take place in Colombia and Argentina from 13 June to 10 July 2021. Read more
