‘Take Us Home: Leeds United’ is another successful football documentary
Manchester City, Tottenham and Sunderland are some of the football clubs that have recently been subjects of documentaries. ‘Take Us Home: Leeds United’, which has just returned for the second season, is another example of a successful sports series.
What makes these documentaries so popular? “Documentaries have taken sport to a new audience,” says head of production Stevie Rowe, “A lot of them now focus on the fans and the backstory, and less about what’s happening on the field and that appeals to non-sports fans. And streaming platforms have spent a lot of money, which means you have super-high production levels that have pushed the genre on. But ultimately, it always comes down to storytelling.” Read more
