Brazil government to publish measures regulating betting market
New developments have been made in relation to the country’s pending sports betting laws.
According to SBCNoticias, Brazil’s government notified agencies of its imminent plans to publish provisional measures required to regulate a fixed-odds sports betting market:
A significant focus has been placed on the redistribution of taxes and fees collected from sports betting. The changes will see an 18.13% allocation for covering the maintenance costs of lotteries, 43.35% for the payment of prizes and income tax, 0.5% for the National Health Fund, and another 0.5% for the Ministry of Tourism. Five years into US betting legalization
On May 14, 2018, the United States Supreme Court jumpstarted the expansion of sports betting.
Survey results released last week by the American Gaming Association found that 85% of Americans agree that it was the right decision to strike down the federal betting ban.
Before the 2018 decision, only 2 states (Nevada and Delaware) had regulated sports betting. Since the Supreme Court lifted the ban, 33 states have launched legal betting markets. Read more
NFL releases 2023 schedule
Five international matchups, the first-ever Black Friday game, and some classic rivalries – the NFL has announced its 2023 preseason and regular season schedule.

ESPN to broadcast EuroLeague in the US
Euroleague Basketball has reached an agreement with sports broadcaster ESPN to showcase its premier tournament, the EuroLeague, in the United States.
ESPN will televise the remaining games of the 2022-23 season, comprising the playoffs and Final Four, along with the complete 2023-24 season.
“I am delighted that all U.S. basketball fans will have the possibility to watch all EuroLeague games on ESPN platform,” Alex Ferrer Kristjansson, Euroleague Basketball Marketing and Communication Senior Director, said. “Globalization is a cornerstone for sports market growth in general and basketball in particular. We are confident that all U.S. basketball fans will appreciate the diversity of our stories and the experience that the EuroLeague delivers during the whole season.” Read more
NBC’s Peacock to air unprecedented Olympic coverage
Viewers can expect live broadcasts on NBC during the daytime featuring swimming, gymnastics, and track and field finals, along with live streaming of every sport and event on Peacock.
This will result in the most extensive coverage of any Olympic Games in history by NBC. The time difference between Paris and Eastern time means that most of the prominent medal events will take place during the U.S. afternoon, a significant change from the previous five Summer and Winter Games held outside of Central Europe.
The Olympics will kick off on July 26, 2024, with a live broadcast of the outdoor Opening Ceremony on NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo along the Seine River. Medal competitions will commence the following day, and NBC is committed to airing at least nine hours of daytime coverage each day, including the live finals. Read more
