MLS signs global streaming deal with Apple
Top-flight United States soccer/football has signed a 10-year deal with Apple to stream all its matches worldwide.
Apple will stream each MLS game from early 2023 through 2032 in the Apple TV app.
The partnership will allow fans to watch every MLS, Leagues Cup, MLS NEXT Pro and MLS NEXT match. Broadcasts will be available in English and Spanish, and games involving Canadian teams will also be available with French coverage.
“Today is a historic day for our league and for our sport,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said, describing the agreement as a “first-of-its-kind” partnership. Read more

Brazil to postpone betting discussion until 2023
Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro will not sign off on the Brazil Sports Betting decree before the October elections.
Brazilian media report that Bolsonaro has been advised to stall federal sportsbook proceedings to secure the vote of Evangelical groups in Congress.
The decision appears to make it impossible for Brazil’s sports betting regulations to be launched in time for World Cup 2022. Read more
Indian Premier League’s media rights deals reach US$6.2 bn
India’s governing body for cricket has announced that it sold TV and digital broadcasting rights for a record $6.2 billion.
Disney Star will pay US$3.02bn to retain domestic TV rights to the Twenty20 tournament, while Viacom18 signed a $3.05bn deal for its digital coverage.
The agreements strengthen the Indian Premier League’s position as one of the world’s most valuable sports properties. Currently, the IPL is only behind NFL when it comes to per-game value.
New York, Toronto, and Mexico City among host cities for 2026 World Cup
The 2026 World Cup will be co-organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico. FIFA has announced the 16 host cities of the tournament.
The fixtures will be held in 11 locations across the United States: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
The Canadian matches will be played in Toronto and Vancouver, while the Mexican ones in Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey. Read more
Betfred extends English rugby league partnership
UK-based sports betting company Betfred has signed a two-year deal to become the principal partner of the England men’s, women’s and wheelchair teams.
The agreement comes into effect immediately and will cover the 2022 Rugby League World Cup. The deal includes shirt sponsorship, branding inventory, as well as hospitality.
“We are proud of the successful relationship with Rugby League that we have built at all levels since we became the title sponsors of the Betfred Super League in 2017, and to be principal partners of the three England teams preparing for a home World Cup is a perfect fit,” Betfred chief executive Fred Done said.
