Crypto companies boost NBA sponsorships to $1.6 bn
Cryptocurrency companies spent over $130M on NBA partnerships during the ’21-22 season, according to IEG’s Sponsorship Intelligence Database.
These deals helped fuel the NBA’s sponsorship revenue to a record $1.6 billion, up 13% from the $1.4 billion in the 2020-21 season.
Sponsorship agreements between the league and cryptocurrency companies include arena-naming rights and for rights to put companys’ names or logos on players’ jerseys. Read more

Sports betting in Ohio starts in 2023
Ohioans will be able to bet through mobile apps and at in-person locations starting from January 1, 2023, the Ohio Casino Control Commission has announced.
The Legislative Budget Office (LBO) estimates the sports gaming market to bring about $3.35 billion for the state after several years of operation.
There will be three ways in which placing a wager will be possible: mobile app (e.g. DraftKings, Fanduels), physically going to a casino sportsbook, or at restaurants with kiosks. Read more

RedBird buys AC Milan for €1.3bn
U.S. investment firm RedBird Capital Partners has agreed a $1.3 billion deal to acquire Seria A champions AC Milan.
The move by RedBird comes less than a year after it bought a roughly 10% stake in Fenway Sports Group, which owns Liverpool FC and baseball’s Boston Red Sox. It also has a controlling stake in French club, Toulouse. Read more
